ISO above 1600 - Do we really need it?
Sep 12, 2011

I am new to these discussion forums, but have been reading dozens of threads discussing noise at high ISO (as for instance regarding the A77, a camera that I am considering for myself), so I believe it must really be a decisive factor to take into consideration when choosing a camera (is it?...).

However I have also found it to be extremely rare to find photos taken at high ISO (say, above 1600). At least in my non-exhaustive search.

So, what I would like to understand is what is the real practical value of having ISO above 1600.

How often do you use these ISO's above 1600? In which situations? Can someone show me some example photos (that benefit of higher ISO being possible)?

Thanks in advance!

And sorry for this basic level question... I'm just a newcomer...
