Portland, OR Remembers 9-11
Sep 12, 2011

Our 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony was held at Fire Station 21 beside the Willamette river in downtown Portland. In attendance were the usual notables; U.S. Senators Wyden and Moakley, Portland's mayor, etc. In the background is the 1927 reserve fireboat, the David Campbell.

The Keynote speaker was retired Firefighter Wes Loucks who described how he and three other Portland firefighters were on the first plane leaving Portland for New York after the flying restrictions were lifted. They were able to go to "The Pile" (Ground Zero) with FDNY firefighter acquaintances and worked with them for about one week.

The Podium with some 9-11 artifacts.
