canon 50mm f/1.8 II autofocus
Sep 12, 2011

Expert folks!

After reading these forums, I tend to believe and expect that 50mm f/1.8 lens produces a sharper image than a regular 18-55mm kit lens in my Canon Rebel XS (1000D). But my experience have been frustrating!

While shooting a portrait, whenever I have tried the 50mm f/1.8 (with F-stop 1.8 in AV mode, ISO auto) I have got an worse focused subject than the kit lens with F-stop 5.6, focal length 55mm (AV mode again!). Both times, I keep the lens in AF mode. Of course the 50mm f/1.8 has given me a better blurred background than the kit lens. Is this an issue of image stabilization (which is lacking in 50mm..as opposed to 18-55mm kit lens)? I am a very beginner of photography.. so please bear with my question if it sounded too silly!

Thanks,
Cyclic
