Fuji x10 versus Digilux 2
Sep 11, 2011

The newly announced X10 camera from Fujifilm could be a modern successor to the famous Lumix LC1 Leica Digilux 2. Almost ten years ago we all marvelled at the Digilux 2 and some of us would still love to own one. But if we compare features, the X10 might challenge the old champion:

They have the same sensor size: 2/3 “. But the Lumix/Leica had a 5 mp CCD while the x10 has a 12 mp EXR CMOS.

The old Lumix/Leica only offered 100-400 ISO with very high noise above 200 and RAW but no buffer. The X10 offers 100-6400 (up to 12800 with half the resolution). The x10 also offers RAW with possible in camera editing – and buffer.

They both have 2,8” rear screens, but the x10 offers 460.000 dots while the Leica only had 211.000 dots.

The Lumix/Leica had a famous Leica Sumilux (not stabilised) 28-90mm f2-2,4 lens with full manual control, while the x10 offers a Fujinon (stabilised) 28-112mm f2-2,8 with manual zoom. Fujinon is certainly not a bad brand but can is match the Leica?

The Lumix/Digilux had a mediocre electronic viewfinder, while the x10 has a true optical viewfinder. But the x10 does not seem to have any indication of focus points in the viewfinder (not even a hair cross in the center) which the Lumix/Leica had.

If we add to this all the blessings of modern electronic know how, Fuji might well have a winner. It will be very interesting to se tests and comparisons!
