Pro photographer workshops-do they really take you to the best spots

This might sound bad, but i was wondering if a photographer that teaches workshops,and also sells his own work would take students to the same spots he likes?
Would a pro phtographer hold back his best locations in an area for his own?i ask this question because i have been contemplating about doing a private workshop or getting a private guide to show mesome area in maui and kauai. My gut tells me that i should not bother!
