Perhaps it's too late but here is where I would start if I were you.

Manual mode on the camera with 1/100 and F4.0 at ISO 200 or 400. Your lens will be a great performer at 4.0 and the rest of the settings might give you a glimpse of some ambient light coming through.

I'd then put the flash on E-TTL and bounce it of whatever white surface you can find, or take some kind of flash attachment that will increase the relative area of the light source.

You might have to tweak those settings a bit but that's usually how I start off.
