I use a D90 at work and a D3100 at home.

the D90 has good features like wireless flash, and the option to pause between mirror raising and exposure, to eliminate shake. Those things like that are great for headshots, group photos, multiple flash stuff, etc.

The D3100 is just right for my home photos. Contrary to what someone said above, it's easier to adjust a lot of settings quickly on the 3100. You click the "i" button twice and you can navigate to and change all the key settings on the back LCD. Plus the 3100 has an assignable ISO button which is great for quickly changing ISO.

The lack of AF motor is a downside, but I grabbed a 35mm 1.8 and don't have to worry about it.
