D7K noise at high ISO - Overexposure helps - this covered before?

As most of you have observed, at high ISOs there is alot of noise when shooting in low/poor light situations (versus good bright even light) - even when one lengthens exposure time for proper exposure. I tried a little experiment and set EVC to +1.0 (this on top of the usual - 2/6 set via b5 that many of us use for a net EVC of +2/3s).
Result - in my eyes the overexposed shot has substantially LESS noise and some more detail. then in View NX I decreased exposure by a stop and found the result VERY superior to the normal shot (at - 2/6s EV). Much better result, not just a little better - VERY noticeable.
Anyone out there have similar results??
Thanks
Gene
