Buying 60D body and want an L Series lens

I'm about to buy a 60D and don;t fancy a kit lens and am thionking of getting an L Series lens. I'm into travel and landscapes, some portrait photography, rarely use flash.
I'm looking at a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM Lens - what are your thoughts on this lens as it is pretty reasonably priced for an L Series?
All thoughts welcomed.
