I just came back from a trip to Strasbourg and Paris, France. In areas where there are high buildings or any kind of obstruction, in narrow streets, the GPS never seems to find its satellites. For exampl,e in the middle of central Paris (6th district), I was trying to photograph the apartments from the street and gave up after having waited maybe 2-3 minutes and sometimes even longer, for the GPS to acquire a signal.

If, however, you can find an area with a clearing, like lower buildings or no buildings (e.g. a parking lot), the GPS has more of a chance of acquiring signals. But waiting more than 3 minutes or so is tiring during an already grueling walk around a big city like Paris, and this is why some of my photos have no GPS tagging, right in the middle of Strasbourg or Paris!
