Nikkor 70-300 VR on D7000 or D5100 ?

The Nikkor 70-300 VR is OK on my D700. I'd like to know how it performs on the D7000 and D5100.

I've heard suggestions that its resolution isn't good enough for the tighter packed pixels on a 16 mp APC sensor.

Any comments appreciated.
