Panny 20mm lens question(s)

I now have a 20mm 1.7 lens, in addition to my 14-45 and 100-300 for my G3.

I notice that the 20mm lens won't accept a hood; is there a reason for that?

Also, I suspect that the ring on the 20mm lens (which moves/rotates like a focus ring) does nothing, correct?
