No wonder Staff Photographers are a dying breed

A friend of mine has a young son who is a keen photographer and is even studying it at school, he's only 13?

Recently he received a phone call from a journalist at a local newspaper that is based 30km away in town.

"Hi I heard you take photographs, I'm writing an article can you nip to the local park and take a picture for me?"

Little boys eyes light up, sure.

Imagine his delight on seeing his picture in the paper yesterday beneath the journalists article.

Did he get paid no! He never asked of course he didn't, I probably wouldn't have asked at his age either. I would have been so excited at the prospect of being published I wouldn't think about the raminifications for Press photographers.

Did the journalist writing the piece get paid of course because that is his job.

I'm sure the lad wants to be a photographer when he grows up, I hope he likes working for free.

I find the journo's behaviour dispicable.
