Toughness of the F-mount

Lats Thursday I took my chance and convinced my GF that our hollidaysaving are best-spend buying a new 70-200 VR2. Man, this piece of glass is sharp!! I thought my 24-70 is tacksharp, but it's no match for the 70-200.

The one thing I was wondering about is, is the Nikon F0mount strong enougt to carry the camera without supporting the lens. Due to the weigt of this beast I normally support the lens, but I'm allways fiddeling with the settings, holding only the camera.

Should I support the lens al the time, or is the mount strong enough?
