1Ds IV and dynamic range

I remember some earlier comments about hopes for greater dynamic range in the new 1DsIV, such as this (marshwader):

37mpx is fine, so long as you run the latest Sandybridge quadcores and have sorted out the intel chipset debacle. But they'll bomb you back to the performance level of your "old" core2duo system, which you've just retired because it seemed a bit slow. I'd be far more excited if they promised SIGNIFICANTLY better dynamic range at 21-24 mpx or so. High hopes.

There may also have been some rumors along these lines. As we're moving toward a possible appearance of the new Canon flagship, I wonder what others have heard or surmised along these lines:
--how could such an improvement be made technically?
--have any new Canon patents dealt with this area?
--would higher DR be a more important selling point that MP?
--etc.
