indoor sports lens. Dont need much zoom, 400D XTI

Got kids playing basketcall again this year. I know the 70-200 2,8 is the hioly grail of sports but not on an XTI inside. I get to much noise having it up pn 1600. I need a fast lens that will give me enough light that I can run iso 400 or lower to keep the cotton looking noise out. I hate that?

Suggestions?
