Should I get the 14-54

Hi,

I have an E-510 and I use the 14-42 as my main lense. I was wondering if I should upgrade to the 14-54, since I think the minimum focusing distance is not short enough for my taste and I think the focus is sometimes slow. I wonder if the 14-54 could do a bette job. Any opinions ? I do mainly portraits and shots of my kids.
