LX2 - battery ran out while shooting video - how to read file?

Shooting a long video on my LX2 (15fps 16:9H) I was about 12 minutes in and my battery died.

I have a 550MB file on my SD card, named .MOV like a regular movie file, but it won't open in any of my video software.

Quicktime tells me "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file", other software (MPEG Streamclip, Visual Hub) give similar messages.

Can anybody suggest how I might repair the video?

Because the recording was prematurely stopped, the header and data in the file should be OK, just the end may have problems, right?

Thanks in advance for suggestions.
