Slightly out of focus
Aug 20, 2011

I am pretty frustrated right now and need some help. I have a 7D and I'm using a 580EX and 430EX speedlite bounced into umbrellas for portrait pictures of my grandkids. I have my 7D on a tripod and trigger the 2 flashes from an St-E2 transmitter. If i put the camera in P mode, I get what I think are great shots but they are a hair out of focus. The camera sets a 5.6 f-stop and 1/60 second shutter speed. I assume the camera is picking the wrong the focus point and because the f5.6 gives a very narrow depth of field, the faces are out of focus. So I tried to switch to Av mode and set an f11 f-stop to increase the depth of field but the shutter speed gets set to some long period of time. What am I doing wrong? I have a lot of money tied up in this gear and I know it's operator error but I cannot figure it out. Please help.
