while in general they look like nice images, there looks to be way to much NR as there seems to be a lack detail on the birds.

You missed the point: those would look much better with the 50-500 OS and have nowhere near the aesthetic appeal of the OP's more detailed license plate photos

Just like this picture:
Nikon D3 ,Nikkor AF-S 500mm f/4G ED VR
1/2000s f/4.0 at 500.0mm iso3200

Using the 50-500 OS would have the advantage over the 500VR by allowing the use use a higher ISO and/or slower shutter speed.

But of course, no bird picture is acceptable without technique that demonstrates detail of the bird!

This one is even worse:
Nikon D70 ,Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S VR
1/30s f/4.0 at 400.0mm

Motion artifact in both the the bird and the water. Nothing is critically sharp anywhere in the picture.

And it was made even worse by the post processing which further lost detail by decreasing the noise.

What a mistake by the fools at the local newspaper who selected this picture to run in hundreds of thousands of papers, and those photo illiterate folks who wrote in, that they liked the image!

One's life is not measured by the two dates upon your tombstone, but how you lived the dash in between them
