Why don't manufacturers produce image stabilized primes? A possibly ignorant question
Aug 17, 2011

Forgive me if I'm missing a technological limitation or asking a dumb question, but I've been experimenting with Canon's nifty, $100 50mm f/1.8 lens, and it leads me to wonder: why do no or almost no manufacturers offer image-stabilized primes? I've gotten used to IS lenses and/or cameras that take some of the challenge out of slight shakes.

See, for example, the attached picture of dust in the bottom of tea. The f-stop was too low, too, but even so, the "shake" seems noticeable to me.
