Questions regarding Rokinon/Vivitar/Samyang 85 f/1.4
Aug 17, 2011

I am considering getting the Rokinon 85 f/1.4 for my D5100. I am considering the chipped version but had a few questions for those w/ experience with this lens.

1) Am I correct in understanding that spot and center weighted metering will work correctly with my body and matrix metering will not? I believe Matrix works with some of the more advanced bodies, but will not w/ the D5100.

2) Can the aperture be set by the camera, or is it only adjusted via the aperture ring on the camera?

3) My understanding is that VF focus confirmation is a bit hit or miss when wide open at f/1.4 due to the thin DoF, but improves considerably when stopped down. (I would intend to use LV when wide open) I believe f/ 2.0-2.8 is when it becomes consistent. What have you found to be the case?

Thanks in advance for you replies,
