Probably wise in the end to take both.

I have been to Paris many times, and have always lugged by latest Canon DSLR (now the 7D). Some of my photos are here (mix of faves and family interest "snapshots"):

This spring I am only bringing the X100 and leaving the DSLR behind, but am not sure I would have done that if I hadn't had many opportunities to use the dSLR before.

A light travel tripod is a must for the night shots, and that city has fabulous ones. I have a Feisol but there are many others.

So, as many of the posters here have noted, and you have concurred, the combo of the larger, bulkier and perhaps more versatile dSLR along with the lighter, inconspicuous X100 will be a nice combo to bring with you. Ain't choice grand?

Most importantly, have fun and take a gazillion photos.

Jonathan
