squeaky filter

I have a 72mm Tiffen Clear filter that squeaks and sticks when I try to put it on or take it off. My Marumi polarizer doesn't have that problem, so I blame the Tiffen filter, not the lens it is being put onto. Do I just need to buy a better quality filter or is there a "fix" for the one I have? And Yes, I want a filter, so we don't need to waste time here re-debating the filter vs. no filter discussion Thanks.
