Nikon D300 to 60D possible defection
Aug 12, 2011

I'm a long time Nikon shooter (don't judge me) with D300, couple of DX lenses (3rd party) and a spouse who is a beginner quickly becoming addicted to dSLR speed/quality. The issue? The D300 is way too heavy/complicated/no auto anything.

I've thought about trading up the D300 for something else (better noise/iso performance for one thing) and the 60D seems like a better middle ground (price, performance, features etc) than Nikon's offerings. The D5100 would be perfect for her but too consumer for me (items hidden in menus bleh) plus it has no focus motor so I'd have to buy new lenses regardless. The D7000 seems a logical step but it's still heavier, video isn't as good, no articulated screen for video etc.

I realize the extra expense in switching platforms but since I don't have any $2k Nikkor lenses I don't feel too bad about the possible move.

Has anyone else here made a similar move? Is the 60D TOO watered down from a 7D/D300 for a "professional amateur" such as myself?
