In reply to Marvin Horlick, Aug 12, 2011

I have used my SC 28 for many years (at least 10) for long telephoto shots running off of an RRS bracket. I have used the SB-900 exclusively with that set up since it was released. I have never had a problem with the plastic cracking. However, I DID have a problem with the screws holding the flash shoe (the end where the flash slides into the mount) to the top of the flash base loosening up leading to a wobbly flash-to-shoe connection. One of the screws actually backed all the way out! However, it was an easy fix to just disassemble the flash base and resecure the screws.
