How do you use your zoom
Aug 5, 2011

It seems to me that there are 2 main ways to use one. At least for me.

One is, you look at a scene and decide what focal length you want to use, then adjust the zoom to that FL by looking at the outside of the barrel, then look through the viewfinder and adjust your perspective. Usually move in for wider etc..
Then make any minor adjustments.

The other way is to just stand where you think you should be, look through the viewfinder and zoom to compose to your liking, maybe moving a little for adjustment of perspective .

I have used mostly number 2. Now I am more familiar with the difference of using different focal lengths, by using primes for a while, and want to start using the first.

It made me curious how other people use their zooms, and if there are ways I haven't even considered.

Thanks !
Floyd
