Are the D7000 scene modes useful?

Hi everyone,

I want to get some feedback from D7000 users on whether the scene modes are of any use? Have read some reviews which said that they are "useless" so I'm trying to understand what that meant.

Any why doesn't the semi pro series like the D300s have them? Is it because the target market is different and hence the semi pros would indeed find the scene modes "useless"?
