Tele-converter for G12

I am thinking of buying a tele converter for my G12, and would like to get advice. My instinct is to buy a Canon 1.4 tele converter. But, is there any other brand that will give the same performance at cheaper price? Please, share your experience and knowledge with me. Thanks.
