Window light and a tripod and a f/2.8 lens. Increase the ISO. Ignore all flashes and stobes and shoot with availble light. Take lots of photos and look at them critically. Learn to look at the light that is there and judge how is it affecting your subject. Change your postion to suit the light. Overhead light is not flattering, side lighting and shade is. Flashes are not good for baby.

If your back is towards the window, the light coming through to the subject will be quite flat (depends of where the sun is). If the window is to the side of the subject, the light will be more dramatic.

Keep it simple. Ignore technology. Master the simple tools to the point that you no longer have to think about how to use them. Then - maybe - add one new tool. Use it for a year to supliment the available light. Look to the past for inspiration.

Be a photographer, not a camera owner.
