I explained it poorly, you did get it.

I was thinking if I shot a raw+jpeg of the same test image with the dsc-r1

I could use both files to pull out a profile and that I could 1- apply to raw shots from the pentax to get the same effect or 2- I could perhaps get a profile of raw+jpeg from the pentax - and create a third (finding the profile differences) that would let me apply it to k20 produced jpegs..

BUT, your response led me to the lightroom camera feature

http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles which looks like what I really want, even if I do have to trial & error it to death because the dsc-r1 precedes the DNG spec.
