Apple TV is it HDC lockedP?

We are talking about an apple TV, but our nice big TV is 7 years old and does not have a HDMI (or DVI) input, just a lot of the older RCA type plugs.
So I was looking for an HDMI to Component video "box". But I found some information that the HDMI has a HDCP that will block all copy protected signal from going into any other type of input.
So on Apple TV, can a box like this be used or will most of the programing be blocked?
I just do not want to scrap (or resell) a nice 46" TV just for a HDMI input.
Thanks
Mike
