Flash experience FYI

I was at the Lake on a sunny day.

Several family members were on a float near the end the of our boat dock.

A850 with the FL20 on board flash.

Took several shots with the sun to the back of the family members. Faces a little dark so I tried using the flash as a fill flash. The distance to the float was about 125 feet.

Now the pictures were over exposed still using the same non flash settings as before.

Lowered the flash compensation but still over exposed.

Key to my discovery. When shooting over water, the flash is reflected by the water similar to using a reflector in the studio.
