? Need good quality tripod
Jul 15, 2011

Hi Everyone,

I've been on the Nikon & Mac forums for years, but am not 100% sure where to post this question...

I need a good quality tripod and would appreciate suggestions. I looked at Really Right Stuff tripods, and although they are fabulous, they are out of my price range.

Here are the parameters I'm looking for:

Must have "flip lever" quick release type locks on the legs. I have arthritis in my hands and screw type legs are too difficult to work with for this hobbyist

I've been borrowing a Manfrotto 190 CLB with Ball head.

This tripod is somewhat light-weight for me, I would like something sturdier. The head on Manfrotto 190 CLB is a bit difficult to move around (with my not-great hands) and when I have the camera set to the perfect position, it often slips around a bit, particularly when the camera is set for shooting in a vertical position. Ideally, the head I buy would be fluid to move and remain secure when tightened down.

I've looked at a Manfrotto 055CX3, the legs look good but I'm not sure about the various heads that are available; I would like a great ball head, one that I can move easily and tighten easily.

Any suggestions and all thoughts are welcome!
