Photo industry lives off the amateurs, not the professionals
Jul 9, 2011

this is what the long-time Photokina Boss Fritz Gruber told me many years ago.

The amateurs ask for all kinds of fancy features, like to blame the industries' products for the poor results they produce. Amateurs like to change equipment a lot (which is good for industry revenue).

This explains the product strategy of Olympus/Panasonic: never put all goodies and one basket, as the amateur will eventually buy all camera bodies, only to dump them after a couple of month without having understood in depth what the device is capable of (just look at all those amateurish "comparisons" of ISO performance, where it is rarely stated what kind of gradation was chosen - which has a lot of impact on sensitivity)
