Perhaps you can choose "soft portait" mode, you might not get such high contrast and artificially sharp images. You can try other modes, which I think might help in getting the type of images you prefer. Could you share the same shot with a few different modes?

I did notice smearing in my test shots at home, however, with this little toy, I think it is incredible in what it can do, especially the hand-held Twilight mode, I would say it is impressive.

I get TX10 mainly for 1 reason, to shot my kids when we go for water sports. I got Olympus Tough m previously, but i lost it in my NZ trip at Mount Cook, some lucky guy might have picked it up. Anyway, I'll never look back at Olympus with TX10. Sony's compact is more responsive and much better thought of in my opinion.
