New EX1 need a bit of advice

I have recently bought an EX1 and I opened it up today for the first time.
Should I put a filter onto the lens and if so what size filter do I need?
I am a Mac user and I noticed the software is PC only, do I need to use the Samsung software at all?
Historically I am a jpeg shooter but I understand the benefits of RAW, however as a Mac user do I need to buy Aperture in order to process the EX1 RAW files.
If anyone has some basic rule of thumb camera setup recommendations, such as sharpness settings etc, they will be appreciated.
