Pentax Kx w/18-55mm and50-200mm

Hi - my brother just purchased the Pentax Kx, 18-55mm and 50-200mm (50-200mm is the non-water resistant lens). I would greatly appreciate comments from those that have this combination - do you love, like, or hate the camera, and why.
The only negative reviews we found was the lack of AF showing in the viewfinder. If you have recommendations on how to work with that, I would greatly appreciate it as well.
Did anyone switch the body from the Kx to Kr? Thanks.
