What is your preferred method for downsizing for web view?

I ask this as I am a bit struggling getting across the richness I see in the SD1 files in smaller sized shots. Using Aperture I get some of that richness but somehow the sharpness/crispness disappears. Through Lightroom files fall flat for me. They seem to be sharp but always a bit dull.

So basically my question is, how do you prepare your files for web view?
