28 f/1.8 for Indoor People Shots?

After hours of research and lots of pictures I think the answer is the Canon 28mm f/1.8. I "need" a good indoor family, kids' parties, group shots, etc. lens for my T1i. Testing with my 15-85 suggests that the "right" spot is between 24 and 35. The 24L and 35L look like a treat, but I'd like to minimize the beatings from my wife.

I already have the 85 f/1.8 for indoor sports and LOVE IT. I'm all over the 28 if it'll have similar image quality.
Any thoughts on the 28 f/1.8 are welcome.
