Which PC-E lens with D700 – if only one
Jun 28, 2011

I have read a lot if not all threads about using the PC-E lenses on a D700 here and am fairly confident I can live with the workarounds. Fields of interest are jewellery (and other macro) and architecture (mainly from the street), some portraiture (indoors) and a bit of landscaping (no shovels).

The 24mm would give me optimal landscape and architecture until a 17mm comes out
The 85mm could give me macro and double as a portrait lens
The 45mm seems to give a little bit of both

I am leaning towards the 45mm but is this lens a jack of all trades but master of none? Will I sorely regret not going for either the wide or tele alternative instead?

Buying an additional lens later (couple of years) is a possibility, but not all three and not now. Must add that I am an amateur with no income from photography so am not "bound" to deliver each time I shoot something.

I would really appreciate input on using the 45mm as “the only” PC-E in one or more of the suggested fields of interest above.

Thanks in advance
