Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded FastStone Viewer, and there is a BIG improvement in image sharpness. Photos look great now.

You don't say what resolution your pictures are or what camera they were taken with, that may have a bearing on sharpness also.

Just a little Panasonic point and shoot. But now I can see it's not the camera or me, it was Windows Gallery.
