A question on morality
Jun 17, 2011

I just won a bid on a Leica M3 + Summicron 50mm f/2 for an unexpectedly low price or 410 euros. However the seller now refuses to sell it to me, claiming he set a reserve, which was way higher, but mysterious "disappeared" due to the web site's fault. I find him words dubious. Frankly I'll feel sorry too, if I forgot to set a reserve on my item, and it ended up won over by a low bid. But things would be simpler if he just admitted to me that it wasn't what he intended, or even better, asked the site to close the auction earlier. Now I'm tempted to "punish" him by demanding the sales(although legally I have every right to do so). But I'm feeling that's not the most moral choice, nor is letting a dishonest seller slip away, if he was indeed lying to me. Fellow DPreviewers, What would you do if you were in this situation?
