When wrong is right - 2 different pics

Hiked the Ape Caves in Washington State, and used my S95 to take some pictures. When we were almost out of the cave, I played a little with the high contrast between the dark of the cave and the light shining in the opening.

Set the flash to slow sync to freeze the cave walls, and used a very slow speed (1 sec) to blur the incoming light. Probably broke all kind of rules of photography but ended up with what I thought was an interesting picture. Comments?

Now, compare this setup to an image I took a few weeks ago:

I think this is kind of freaky.....
