How do you properly compare lens image quality head to head?
Jun 10, 2011

I am able to use enough quality popular lenses that I'd like to try and contribute my test findings/shots to the photography community (you know much much photographers love a good debate!). I usually take photos of a variety of subjects with each lens in my test at each full F stop from wide open to fully stopped down. Usually on a tripod, from the same position, lighting, camera settings, etc.

I don't have any formal experience testing/comparing lenses of similar qualities to one another. Can anyone tell me how to properly compare two lenses of similar specs so that I can share the results with forums like these?

I've been able to take "casual test shots" with:
1) 3x 24-70ish F/2.8 lenses from Canon, Sigma, Tamron
2) 3x 70-200ish F/2.9 lenses from Canon, Sigma, Tamron
3) 2x 14mm lenses from Canon & Sigma
4) 2x 85mm lenses
