X100: Cosmetic defect? or more serious?

Just got my new X100. Looking into the lens, I see this. I've read about others who have experienced something like this. How serious an issue has this been found to be? I'd like everything to be perfect, yet dread dealing with Fuji as customer protection laws simply dont exist here in China.

I can't see anything going on in the images that I have shot so far.

Fujifilm quality control simply blows chunks. How can something like this get through QC?
