The 135L is a great lens but I wouldn't call it versatile.

I've used it with a 35L for weddings and photoshoots for years.

It really would benefit from having IS. Try getting razor sharp pics in a church at 1/30 ISO 1600 F2 with it.

Having said all that it does produce amazing images that are hard to replicate with 'most' other lenses.

It was always a great lens in the film days as the film tolerance was nothing like a modern digital camera, were everyone pixel peeps. You would see the grain in the film before the blur from camera shake, so it was never an issue.

Head and shoulders portrait lens
full body lens - outdoors with room (I.E the beach, function gardens)
