so let's sum up: after much trial and error, you had found settings which, on the D70 you claim you owned (though showing samples from other people's), gave you "good" skin tones.

as we all know, colour perception is a personal thing. And made more complex because our brain auto-adjusts. Under some horrible neon lights things WILL be greenish, BUT our brain largely self-adjusts for this.

Now with a camera, what is one to do? Try a standard WB that leaves things looking greenish. Do a WB pre-set which will give more "standard" results but cheat with reality?

What about defects in colour perception? For example Ken Rockwell (of kenrockwell dot com) seems to see the world much more yellow, than it really is. So he pushes for warmer and yellower WB all the time.

Bottom-line: you CANNOT be sure. You have however DECIDED that what you're getting from your d7000 is wrong. Though there isn't any hard evidence, sorry.

And, you won't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I think I remember someone saying your symptoms strongly resembled Hypocondria, except it was applied to your camera, rather than yourself. Let's examine some of the symptoms of hypochondria:

  • Having a long-term intense fear or anxiety about having a serious disease or health condition: check

  • Worrying that minor symptoms or bodily sensations mean you have a serious illness: check

  • Persistent refusal to accept medical advice that there is no adequate physical cause for the symptoms or physical abnormality: BIG check

  • Frequently switching doctors — if one doctor tells you that you aren't sick, you may not believe it and seek out other opinions: check (on forums, and who knows where else)

  • Continuously talking about your symptoms or suspected diseases with family and friends: check

  • Obsessively doing health research: check

  • Frequently checking your body for problems, such as lumps or sores: check

  • Frequently checking your vital signs, such as pulse or blood pressure: check

  • Thinking you have a disease after reading or hearing about it: check
