Re this picture, if you have the RAW file, using HLs/LLs recovery tools in CNX2 (works for jpegs but not so effectively) plus some exposure compensation or slight curves will make the red structure pop. It's good as is already, but can be improved slightly.

I never found MM a problem on the D200 The slight over exposure of the front white cabin area of this old light ship can be pulled back in raw. I also find that colours are very easy to control on this camera. they are usually correct which is helpful.
