How do wages and benefits or payroll/employee taxes factor in? Are wages (government mandated minimum wage for B.C or Ontario vs. New York or California) substantially different? Are there mandatory taxes for health benefits or retirement plans in any of those jurisdictions on top of higher wages? Would higher wages and/or taxes be substantial enough to really sway prices that much? Or are price differences really a million little things all adding up to one big difference?
